Katherine McGree

Katherine is a diligent advocate specialising in the areas of administrative and public law, regulatory law and constitutional law.

Because of the breadth of these areas of law, Katherine’s expertise is not limited by industry or subject matter. Her practice extends to all jurisdictions and legal contexts, including coronial inquests and commissions of inquiry. The majority of her work involves questions of statutory construction, evidence and litigation strategy in connection with: an exercise of regulatory power, a constitutional challenge, judicial or merits review, a regulatory offence or prosecution, civil penalty proceedings and confiscations, professional disciplinary matters, quasi-criminal proceedings, and human rights.

Katherine’s expertise also includes disputes that arise in sporting contexts. She has advised and acted in racing matters, and for international-level athletes before the Court of Arbitration for Sport based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Before her 2017 admission to the bar, Katherine enjoyed diverse experience as a solicitor. She was a Senior Lawyer in the Dispute Resolution team of Australian Government Solicitor working across the areas of law enforcement, general administrative law, and employment and workers’ compensation, a senior lawyer at the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry, a solicitor in the litigation and regulatory law team of an international law firm, and a solicitor in the planning, government, infrastructure and environment team of a national law firm.

Katherine has also worked as a legal officer at the Australian Law Reform Commission and served as an Associate to the Honourable Justice Debra Mullins of the Supreme Court of Queensland.

Katherine holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Arts (economics and political science) from the University of Queensland.
